2022 FIFA World Cup Report

FIFA World Cup Report

The FIFA World Cup 2022™ is a singular chance for broadcasters, platforms and brands to connect with a massive global audience.

I was tasked with creating the look and feel of a report and providing assets for a web experience that would provide predictions and stats on the World Cup. Nielsen’s 2022 world football report details how to deliver the ultimate World Cup experience by unpacking:

  • Who football fans are

  • How sports viewing has changed

  • What sponsorships resonate

  • Where data is key

The goal was to push downloads on the report and drive clicks to the data hub. The brief asked for two key visuals, one for the report, the other for the hub. With the direction being to tie both visuals to each other while differentiating them, I took a photographic approach and tied them together with an outlined triangle tying in the Nielsen brand. An insight suggested that the report was tailored to consumers so I sourced images that more portrayed the audience. While using a more generic soccer player as the key visual that pointed to that data hub. By altering colors, I was able to create two similar but different KVs.

Once I developed the key visuals for both the report and data hub, I built the report out, along with sourcing imagery, creating data visualization, insights, and our email and social pushes to market the report and site. I was able to use some of the motion in the email and social assets as well to add more enjoyability. During this time, our smaller design team had a design intern sit in with us for six weeks. During her time, I had her work on creating some supporting Instagram posts to further promote the report. Instead of creating myself, this was an opportunity to practice giving art direction.

The project has since ended and the was received very well by the greater media landscape. It garnered press from ESPN, BBC Sports, FIFA, and many others. An article published by ESPN sites Nielsen as their source for the article.
